The proposed book contains monuments of apocryphal literature, united by the genre of revelation, or apocalypse. “The Revelation of St. John the Theologian,” which completes the Christian Bible, has been attracting increased and understandable attention for two millennia - it will be all the more interesting for the reader to get acquainted with ancient texts created in line with the same tradition. Some of the published apocrypha arose earlier than the canonical “Apocalypse”, in the Jewish environment, some - later, up to the 9th-10th centuries. according to R. X., their authors are already Christians. The introductory article traces the history of the genre of revelation, and the consideration is not limited to the texts included in the collection; special attention is paid to this genre in the Books of the Old and New Testaments. The commentary will allow the reader to evaluate the relationship between canonical and apocryphal interpretations of biblical events, and to form a clearer idea of the themes of apocalyptic literature.
