Leo Tolstoy is an excellent example of a successful “theater for oneself,” as Nikolai Evreinov writes in his article “Theater Therapy,” published in 1920 in the magazine “Life of Art.” In contrast to the “imaginary patient” Moliere, Tolstoy “played the role of a healthy , being sick, and acted out no worse than a real actor.”
