Thomas Myne Reid (1818–1883) was an English writer who influenced the work of such famous authors as Robert Louis Stevenson and Henry Rider Haggard. Jack London was also fond of his works. M. Reed's novels and stories are full of romantic adventures and entertaining plots. Vivid pictures of wild nature, dizzying journeys to exotic countries, the struggle of courageous people for freedom and justice, knightly love and, next to it, villainy - all this is so tempting that the reader is immersed in the multifaceted world created by the author. The famous African explorer David Livingston wrote this in his last letter from the African jungle: “Readers of Mayne Reid’s books are the stuff from which travelers are made.” Volume I of the three-volume edition of the author’s selected works.
