Cheslav Chekhovich (1900–1958) fought in the White Army as part of its Polish contingent during the Russian Civil War. In 1920, together with many other Russian officers, he landed in Constantinople, which became his home for a year and a half. Here he met P. D. Uspensky, and then Georgy Ivanovich Gurdjieff. This connection would remain until Gurdjieff's death in 1949 - Chekhovich followed the teacher to Berlin, then to the Institute for Harmonic Human Development in Priore, then helped in George Ivanovich's apartment on Colonel Renard Street. After Gurdjieff's death, Cheslav Chekhovich continued his work with Jeanne de Salzmann (to whom this book is dedicated) until his death in 1958. The book by Cheslav Chekhovich - the memoirs of a man who was in the space of a teacher for twenty-eight years - continues the series “Gurdjieff. The Fourth Way" in the publishing group "Tradition".
