Leave the city, the country, the usual life, friends and family and settle for six months in a hut on the shore of Lake Baikal - this is precisely the goal that the thirty-eight-year-old French traveler Sylvain Tesson sets for himself. He dreams of living in silence and solitude, surrounded by Siberian cedars, books and his own thoughts. Tesson takes long walks in the taiga, skates on a frozen lake, occasionally receives guests and writes a diary. Subsequently, the famous traveler will call the period from February to July 2010 one of the happiest in his life. The book, filled with images of Baikal nature and reflections on a variety of topics, tells about this unique experience far from his native France. Awarded the Medici Prize in the field of essays (2011) the book “In the Forests of Siberia” went through several reprints, and also served as the basis for a feature film of the same name (Dans les forêts de Sibérie; directed by Safi Nebbu, 2016).
