The History of the Life and Achievements of Henry VII (De Vita atque Gestis Henrici Septimi Historia, c. 1500-1502) is the first official literary monument (besides the chronicles) of the early Tudor period, recording the victory of Henry Richmond over Richard III York at the Battle of Bosworth in 1485 and the subsequent years of triumph for the new dynasty. Its author is Bernard Andre, a French humanist, English court poet and historiographer, teacher of Princes Arthur and Henry (the future Henry VIII). “The History of Life...” is a biography of the monarch, in which the greatest attention is paid to the genealogy of the ruler, the legitimacy of the Lancaster dynasty, Henry's right to be their heir, the cruelty of the enemies of the crown. The published translation, carried out from Latin, equipped with an introductory article and comments, will be of interest not only to historians, political scientists, legal scholars, but also to a wide range of readers.
