The book by Stanley Lan-Poole, a famous English numismatist and orientalist of the late 19th - early 20th centuries, author of studies on the history, art and ethnography of the Arabs of Egypt, the history of the Great Mughals and Muslim epigraphy, was published in 1894 and already in 1899 through the efforts of V.V. Bartold, a future academician, and at that time a private associate professor at St. Petersburg University, its translation into Russian was published with numerous amendments and additions by the translator. Until now, the book by St. Len-Pool remains (along with the reference book by K.E. Bosworth, 1971) the only guide to Muslim chronology and genealogy in Russian.
