The new novel by Oleg Ermakov, winner of two major Russian literary awards - “Yasnaya Polyana” and “Big Book” - is not a direct continuation of his cult “Rainbow and Heather”. But we can say that it follows from the previous book, absorbing into its powerful plot flow both several former heroes and new amazing people of deep Russia: an embroiderer, a farmer, the caretaker of the ancient estate of Ptitselov and his friends, admirers of Velimir Khlebnikov, seekers of the “Chest of Silver a pea." The story of Birdcatcher - his French voyage - is a fascinating story in a novel. And the main characters themselves are not only colorful, but also relevant: a Tolstoyan anarchist fleeing persecution for a seditious post on his blog, a silly beggar woman singing spiritual songs. The river attracts the heroes, and they find their own island, where a new countdown of the era of freedom and love begins for them. “The plasticity of the writing is amazing, defending the honor of classical Russian prose... The novel is an adventure novel - in the sense in which we are accustomed to thinking about the novels of Walter Scott and, not without looking back at them, about Pushkin’s “The Captain’s Daughter”” (Irina Rodnyanskaya). This was said about the previous book, but it is even more true for the new one.
