The novel “Under the Shadow of Darius Achaemenides” by the famous Ural writer Arsen Titov is the second part of the “Shadow of Behistung” trilogy. Here is a magazine version of this novel, published in No. 7.8 of the Ural magazine in 2012. The action of the trilogy “Shadow of Behistung” takes place during the First World War on the Caucasian front and in Persia in the period from 1914 to 1917, as well as in Yekaterinburg in winter -in the spring of 1918, on the eve of the Civil War. The trilogy reveals little-known and sometimes completely forgotten pages of our not so distant history, tells about the fate of the Russian officers, Cossacks, ordinary soldiers who defended the borders of our Fatherland, about their lives upon returning home to the first and seemingly peaceful post-revolutionary months. The “Shadow of Behistung” trilogy is one of the few works of fiction in our literature dedicated specifically to these events, full of tragedy, selfless service, and feats in the name of the Fatherland. In 2014, the novel trilogy was awarded a prestigious literary award Yasnaya Polyana Prize.
