By the early 1940s, Germany had become the strongest world power, having already occupied and subjugated almost all European countries. Hitler turned all the military and economic power of these countries against the Soviet Union. All European countries participated on the side of Nazi Germany in the war against the USSR: seven of them were in a military alliance with Germany, and others, although they were in the position of occupied and even “neutral”, supplied Germany with the necessary material resources, equipment, weapons, food and “volunteers” for the Wehrmacht and auxiliary units.
