This book explores European medieval philosophy in its formation. The author gives a complete overview of philosophy, starting with Christian patristics, and, analyzing the writings of Augustine and Boethius, moves on to scholasticism, including Arab and Jewish philosophical thought of the same period. Significant attention is paid to the Renaissance and the works of the first German mystics, as well as elements of modern European science within the framework of medieval thought.
