The Garden of the Gods is a sequel to My Family and Other Beasts—“a book that is literally spellbinding” (Sunday Times) and “the most delightful idyll imaginable” (The New Yorker) and “ Birds, animals and relatives”, as well as the collection “Holidays, animals and other absurdities”. With unfailing love, impeccable accuracy and inimitable humor, Durrell talks about the five-year stay of his family (including his older brother Larry, that is, Lawrence Durrell - the future author of the famous “Alexandria Quartet”) on the Greek island of Corfu. These novels and collections sold millions of copies around the world, became reference books for several generations of readers, and in England were even included in the school curriculum. The Corfu Trilogy (which over time grew to include six books) has been brought to television three times, most recently between 2016 and 2019, when the British company ITV produced the series The Durrells (in four seasons), co-directed by Edward Hall (Downton Abbey, Agatha Christie's Miss Marple). The novel is published in a new translation by Sergei Tusk, whose translations include Tom Wolfe and John Le Carré, Stephen King and Paul Auster, Ian McEwan, Richard Yates and Francis Scott Fitzgerald have already become classics.
