Fritz Pieterse (1913–1979) first met the great Russian philosopher George Ivanovich Gurdjieff in 1924, at the age of eleven. Thus began a journey that was destined to enrich and completely transform his life. The first book in this volume, “Childhood with Gurdjieff,” describes the period from 1924 to 1928 - the times of greatest prosperity and activity of the Institute for the Harmonious Development of Man in Priora. The stories, beautifully told, wonderfully demonstrate Gurdjieff's unconventional approach to dealing with both everyday and eternal issues. The second book, Remembering Gurdjieff, relates to the author's later encounters with Gurdjieff between 1932 and 1947. Perhaps this is one of the purest and at the same time paradoxical descriptions of the archetypal “teacher-student” interaction. Fritz Peters reveals the true, human traits of Gurdjieff and introduces us to one of the most mysterious and controversial personalities of the 20th century. As Henry Miller especially noted in the foreword, the language of the book “can be considered one of the true treasures of our literature.” Fritz Peters’ book continues the series “Gurdjieff. The Fourth Way" (after "The Student's Diary" by C.S. Nott and "Women's Collection") in the Tradition publishing group.
