The book tells about Gilbert de Lafayette, a participant in three revolutions: the American Revolution of 1774–1783 and the Great French Revolution of 1789–1799. and the July Revolution in France in 1830, in each of which he played a prominent role. His fate intertwined romantic adventures and harsh hardships, lifetime glory and oblivion. Lafayette's political biography is given against a broad background of turbulent historical events. The gallery of Lafayette's contemporaries is impressively presented: J. Washington, B. Franklin, Louis XVI, Marie Antoinette, Mirabeau, Danton, Alexander I and others.
