Shortly after Hattie's thirteenth birthday, she receives a mysterious letter from her grandmother asking her to "Come soon." She was always a little strange, sent her granddaughter branches instead of gifts, wandered through the forest and clearly kept some kind of secret. And now she has completely disappeared. Arriving in the foggy village of Brokewood, Hattie discovers that Granny's house is empty, and something strange is going on around her.
