Fate played a cruel joke on a successful realtor: an important deal fell through due to homeless people who accidentally wandered into the elite quarter. The hero turns into an ardent hater of the tribe of Parisian clochards, glorified by classical French literature. He tries to kill, masking his sense of revenge with the desire to cleanse the city of filth. The line between a normal life and a fall turns out to be thin: he himself becomes a clochard. The writer's skill and his dark philosophical humor were fully demonstrated in the colorful description of the Parisian bottom. The name of Pascal Brückner is well known. His novels “Bitter Moon” (the film of the same name by Roman Polanski), “My Little Husband”, “The Thieves of Beauty”, as well as books of essays “The Paradox of Love”, “Eternal Euphoria”, “The Tyranny of Repentance” were published in Russian.
