The book “Gekachepists” is dedicated to the biographies of people who forever entered the history of the USSR as members of the State Committee for the State of Emergency (GKChP). They were very different personalities, but in some ways, undoubtedly, outstanding and talented, who managed to reach the highest government positions. They were united by participation in an attempt to save the Soviet Union from collapse, but the failure of the State Emergency Committee only accelerated the collapse of the country and thus entailed consequences on a world-historical scale. Maxim Artemyev, writer, journalist, historian, at one time worked as press secretary of Vasily Starodubtsev, one from members of the State Emergency Committee, which aroused interest in this topic and prompted the writing of the presented book, the second in the author’s account from the “ZhZL” series.
