During the destruction of an old house, builders find in the basement the mummified body of a young girl, who had lain there for about sixty years. Judging by the location of the remains, she was stabbed to death as part of some kind of occult ritual. Tony McLean, Detective Inspector of the Edinburgh Police, understands that it is almost impossible to solve a case this old, but still cannot forget about it. Meanwhile, a series of bloody murders occur in the city. The investigation quickly comes to a dead end, since there are no clear evidence, no motives, and the victims are in no way connected with each other, although part of one or another internal organ was removed from each. McLean is convinced that all these events are somehow intertwined. He has only guesses, indirect evidence of his theory, but it will lead him to a collision with a terrible and very ancient secret.
