Herodian's work sets out Roman history from the death of Marcus Aurelius to Gordian III, that is, covers the years 180–238 AD. e. Consequently, this publication is an extremely useful addition to the so-called “Authors of the Lives of the Augustans,” recently republished (M., 1992) under the title “Lords of Rome.”
