American psychologist Christina Warren seems to have achieved everything in life that one could dream of: private practice in California, in one of the most beautiful parts of the world, many clients and professional recognition. It is unlikely that any of this successful woman’s acquaintances or colleagues will recognize in her a harassed emigrant girl from Russia, who many years ago found herself in a country completely foreign to her. And even more so, none of them will be able to imagine that Christina uses her ability to penetrate into the most intimate corners of human souls in order to manipulate clients, find out their secret weaknesses and gradually destroy their relationships, thereby replenishing the ranks of desirable bachelors for the Russian marriage agency "Stranger." Only when her activities cause the death of an innocent woman and child does Christina begin to understand how deep the abyss into which her game with other people's destinies has led her. Will Christina be able to get to the bottom of the truth, find out who is behind the mysterious death, and at the same time hide own crimes? Will she be able to deceive the FBI and will she cope with the consequences of such a deception? Is she ready to realize that for several years, without knowing it, she worked for Russian intelligence? And will Christina decide to break the secret connection with the “Stranger” and its leadership, if the director of the agency is her own sister? Meanwhile, in distant Montenegro, a coup d’état is brewing. Russian intelligence services and Serbian radicals are trying to direct the country’s development along completely different tracks than its official government. Foreign Intelligence Service officer Fyodor Averin finds himself at the very heart of the conspiracy. Like Christina, he will have to make a difficult and ambiguous choice between his Motherland and conscience, Russia and America, loyalty and betrayal.
