This publication introduces readers to letters from 19 correspondents to David Burliuk, most of which have not been published until today. They cover the period from 1924 to 1966 and belong to the “American period” of the artist. All published letters are given in full and are stored in the Burliuk fund (f. 372) in the Research Department of Manuscripts of the Russian State Library (RIR RSL). Collection of letters in archive is vast and diverse, it clearly demonstrates the absolute openness of the addressee. The earliest part of the archive, containing letters from the second half of the 1920s (Matyushin, Malevich, Palmov, Lentulov), is associated, for the most part, with proposed exhibition projects, requests to promote sales paintings. The letters-diaries of Evgeniy Spassky, who as a very young artist accompanied Burliuk on his “Siberian” tour, and the letters-reports of the director of the Ufa Art Museum Julius Blumenthal are of a different nature. A separate block of letters are letters from Russian artists who found themselves in Europe after the revolution ( Masyutin, Larionov and Goncharova). In this section, the collection of letters from Boris Grigoriev is the most significant (19 letters, from 1925 to 1935). Among the correspondents there are artists who are on the same continent with Burliuk - Nikolai Tsikovsky and Rockwell Kent. The later part of the archive contains letters from artists with whom D. Burliuk met during his two visits to the USSR (1956 and 1965) - letters from Dmitry Krasnopevtsev, Igor Shelkovsky, as well as letters from old friends, contact with whom was interrupted for a long time. The publication is preceded by an extensive article by art critic Vladimir Polyakov, a specialist in the work of David Burliuk. The article describes in detail the fate of Burliuk's archives and talks about the specifics of the published collection of letters. Each section is accompanied by information about the history of the relationship between the sender of the letter and D.D. Burliuk, detailed notes are given. The publishing layout is saved in a4.pdf format.
