Vladimir Pavlovich Cherevansky (1836–1914) - statesman and writer. He made a brilliant career, the pinnacle of which was his appointment as a member of the State Council for the Department of State Economy. He began his literary activity in 1858 with stories and essays published in many metropolitan magazines. Subsequently, he wrote many novels and stories, in which he established himself as a good storyteller. He also published many editorials on economic and other issues and a number of feuilletons under the pseudonyms “V. Ch." and "Ech". In the 1890s. published several dramatic works, as well as historical chronicles of the Russian-Japanese War. The hero of the novel “Love under Fire,” Boris Mozhaisky, goes to Turkestan to organize supplies for the army of General Skobelev, which is fighting in the Ahal-Tekin oasis. On the ship he meets Irina, who is heading to Turkestan to join her English husband. Boris is captivated by the girl’s beauty and spiritual strength. But fate takes them to enemy camps, and it seems that forever... The heroic siege of the Geok-Tepe fortress by Russian soldiers turns into a struggle for their happiness for the heroes of the novel. If love is real, then it blooms even under fire.
