Bob Dylan, the great American rock musician, singer, poet and artist, author of the experimental novel Tarantula, still remains the most mysterious personality of modern world culture. His entire life since the early 1960s has been carefully documented by the press, and his poetry and music have been repeatedly subjected to careful analysis from various positions, from Freudianism to Marxism. Despite hundreds of volumes written over the past forty years about Dylan, we know very little about him. It is not surprising that the whole world was eagerly awaiting the publication of the first volume of his autobiography, entitled, biblically simply, “Chronicles.” Written contrary to the canons of the autobiographical genre, the book became a true revelation for many connoisseurs and admirers of the work of a man without whom musical and poetic culture of the 20th and early 21st centuries. Dylan recalls the key events of his creative and personal biography, speaks with great warmth about the people and music that shaped him as an artist, paints a broad but detailed panorama of art and society in America in the second half of the 20th century. Here is a stunning eyewitness account of the birth of all modern culture.
