The Armenian science fiction writer Ashot Shaibon (pseudonym of Ashot Gasparyan, 1905-1982) began publishing as a poet in the mid-1920s; and as a science fiction writer he entered literature at a difficult time not only for the science fiction genre - in the early forties. He published the first part of his monumental science fiction trilogy “Conquerors of Darkness” in 1951 (Russian translation 1953), the second part - “Captains of Space Ocean" in 1955, but its Russian translation appeared only in 2016, in the publishing house "Prestige Book", after the re-release of the first part. The third part, "Secrets of Planet Earth" (1960), was translated into Russian for the first time. Although the author in many ways remained a son of his time, his forecasts were far ahead of the general level of science fiction of that time - which is rightly considered to be “the time of Efremov.” To this day, all three novels are read with unflagging interest and have retained their artistic value.
