Six-year-old girl Masha comes to visit her grandparents in the village for the summer. There she meets the bannik Mukhlya, the miller Girey, the brownie Kukunya and the yard servant Vasyapka. No one sees them except Masha. Helping her new friends make their dreams come true, Masha unwittingly tells adults how to revive a dying village.
