The monograph by Doctor of Philology, Professor V.I. Zhelvis is the first scientific study in Russia devoted to the problems of foul language. Recently, this problem has acquired special significance all over the world, including in Russia: foul language has begun to play such a large role that society no longer has the right to limit itself to simple emotional condemnation of this phenomenon. The time has come to comprehend it as deeply as possible, to draw attention to the “abusive pandemic”, to show its origins and causes, to compare in this regard the strategy and tactics of various national cultures and to make us think about further ways of ethical development of humanity. The author has studied the invective strategies of several dozen languages of the world , the richest material of modern research in the field of sociology, psychology, ethnography, physiology, ethology and other sciences is involved. The first edition of “Battlefield”, which at one time appeared on the list of “intellectual bestsellers”, has long been sold out. The second edition of the monograph has been significantly expanded by incorporating materials from recent research carried out abroad, as well as studying the invective practices of many national cultures that were not taken into account in the first edition. In addition, the author used the American experience of resolving court cases related to insulting the honor and dignity of citizens. This addition makes the book a valuable tool for domestic lawyers. In order to expand the readership, the second edition has significantly simplified the terminology, and the presentation itself has become more popular.
