L.N. Tolstoy has said more than once that his correspondence with A.A. Tolstoy, his cousin, is important “for those who may be interested” in his personality. Events of the Yasnaya Polyana family life, shocks, sorrows and joys, hobbies at school, work “on hunger,” reflections on the fate of Russia, irreconcilable religious disputes, literary plans - everything was absorbed in this almost half-century-long correspondence. Published for the first time in 1911, the book of letters between L.N. Tolstoy and A.A. Tolstoy was highly praised by contemporaries, who called it “the most frank and purest evidence of spiritual communication,” and Tolstoy himself considered it his best autobiography. The main section of the new edition includes 264 letters: 135 letters from L.N. Tolstoy (16 of them were not included in the first edition) and 129 letters from A.A. Tolstoy (61 letters are published for the first time). The “Additions” section includes previously unpublished correspondence between A.A. Tolstoy and S.A. Tolstoy, the writer’s wife, and other members of Tolstoy’s family. Open the publication "My memories of L.N. Tolstoy" gr. A.A. Tolstoy. The letters are accompanied by an article, notes and illustrations. The publication was prepared by researchers from the State Museum of Leo Tolstoy.
