The course offered to the reader’s attention is a new word in the history of Russian biblical studies. While in Western European languages there are many manuals called “Introduction to the Old Testament” and “Introduction to the New Testament,” we actually do not have such manuals in Russia. Before the revolution of 1917, Lopukhin’s “Biblical History” and the “Explanatory Bible” were published in 3 volumes. In Soviet times, only atheists (Yaroslavsky, Osipov, Kryvelev) wrote about the Bible. The author of the book, an Orthodox Christian, who has been studying the Bible for about 40 years, participated in the project of interlinear translation of the New Testament from ancient Greek into Russian, a doctor of philosophy from the University of Tübingen, who defended his dissertation on the Book of the Prophet Daniel, offers the interested reader the author's introductions to the books of the Old and New Testaments, as well as additional materials related to the history of the biblical text and biblical archaeology. The author thanks his teachers in the field of the Old and New Testaments, as well as Inna Borisova (Pyatogorsk Mother of God Convent) for technical assistance.
