Colleen and Rich Gundersen are raising their young son on the rocky California coast. It's 1977, and life in this logging town is not what it used to be. For generations, the community lived and breathed the forest; Now this way of life is under threat. Colleen is a midwife. Rich is a lumberjack. He climbs trees hundreds of feet high, a dangerous job that killed his father and grandfather. Colleen and Rich want a better life for themselves and their son. But when Rich secretly uses his savings to buy a plot of ancient redwood trees, and Colleen, mourning her recently lost pregnancy and desperate for a second child, opposes the logging company's use of herbicides, which she believes is the cause of numerous miscarriages, the Gundersens find themselves... different sides of the emerging conflict. As tensions rise in the city, the very thing they are trying to protect is threatened: their family.
