Christian Gayly is a famous French writer. In his youth he became interested in jazz and tried to make a career as a saxophonist. Then he switched to psychoanalysis and even opened his own office. He turned to literature in the 1980s and from the very first publications attracted attention with his unusual writing style. The author balances between expressed and hidden thoughts, complete and broken sentences, close-ups and details. He cinematically changes angles, creating a jazz rhythm of the narrative and plunging into light absurdity. His texts seem sentimentally simple-minded, but behind the imaginary unpretentiousness one can feel a piercing sadness. The main themes of the stories are loneliness, a feeling of emptiness and impossible love. The leitmotif is the music that the characters compose, play, discuss, or simply listen to.
