“The cause of Ostap Bender lives and wins!” – just such an epigraph would be very suitable for this novel. True, here the role of the famous adventurer is played by two people at once: retired law enforcement officer Grigory Samosvalov and former tiler foreman Rostislav Kosovsky. This couple visits influential and wealthy people in one of the regional centers of Ukraine and offers to support a certain charitable foundation created for the prosperity of their native land. Of course, we are not talking about verbal, but about solid financial support. The local “elite” is not against providing assistance - after all, the successors of Ostap Bender’s work are talking about creating a kind of club “for their own”, where it will be possible to resolve all issues without attracting anyone’s unwanted attention. The novel reeks of Gogol’s immortal poem. And although life has changed, morals have not changed, and all the same vices are inherent in people. Even if these are no longer landowners, but heads of various organizations and entrepreneurs, the essence of this “gallery of images” remains the same. And Samosvalov and Kosovsky have no doubt that their idea will be a success.
