The action takes place in the post-war years in the Quiet Marina clinic. In essence, it is a kind of nursing home, where some very eccentric elderly people live. The clinic is headed by Dr. Ekhinokuk. The main work of his life is the development of a drug that can give people the opportunity to be reborn again. And one fine day, after many unsuccessful experiments, he still manages to create such a drug. In a roundabout way, the clinic's patients manage to find out that they are being prepared to take this drug experimentally.
