“The Apocrypha of Aglaia” is a novel from one of the most prominent authors of modern Poland, winner of prestigious literary awards Jerzy Sosnowski - a tragic story “about mad love and the strangeness of the world” against the backdrop of the confrontation between the intelligence services of the East and the West. The hero of this novel, like the hero "The Magus" by John Fowles, attracted by wind-up musical dolls; A virtuoso pianist, he is unable to resist the fatal love attraction. Here, as in all of Sosnowski’s books, a scrupulously realistic texture is combined with a certain fantasy and metaphysics, and the matryoshka structure of the narrative is reminiscent of the cornerstone of European magical realism - “The Manuscript Found in Zaragoza” by Jan Potocki.
