The book is devoted to the study of historical, literary and iconographic traditions of depicting Muslims during the era of the Crusades. It identifies signs of otherness common to these traditions and studies the evolution of ideas about Muslims during the 12th-13th centuries. Particular attention is paid to the narrative techniques with which medieval authors create the image of the Other.
