Young reporter Emily Baxter was one of the few survivors of the red rain caused by aliens that destroyed humanity. But the flood and the epidemic it caused are replaced by even greater horror. The mutated earth gives birth to a new, terrifying life form. Now the only chance for Emily to escape is to go to distant Alaska, where the rest of the survivors have found refuge. The path from New York to Alaska promised to be long and difficult, because she had nothing at all, and only one dog accompanied her. But, having met a refugee family along the way, Emily begins to believe in a bright future again.
