The book by French historian Marie-Anne Polo de Beaulieu is dedicated to France during the classical Middle Ages and covers the period between the year 1000 and the onset of the plague epidemic in 1348. At this time, French society underwent fundamental changes, as a result of which a highly developed civilization was formed, in which the foundations of state and religious life, as well as knightly ideology, are rooted in the distant pagan past.
