The cycle "Mischievous Tales" is an ironic stylization of the novels of the Renaissance, created by Balzac in 1832-1837. The great master succeeded in recreating the spiritual world of the people of the late Middle Ages. Contrary to the vague romantic pessimism that was fashionable at the time, in these short stories there is a truly Gallic liveliness, Rabelaisian humor shines, and even Giovanni Boccaccio could envy the descriptions of the characters' sophisticated and funny love pleasures.
