Jerome Salinger's novel The Catcher in the Rye was first published in 1951 - and since then it has remained simultaneously one of the most read and most banned works of world literature. And one of the most mysterious. They looked for - and found - calls for violence, excessive cruelty, depravity and other signs of “corruption of youth.” Nobody cared what the author had to say. Everyone tried to find the hidden meanings and secret messages of the Text itself. 15 years later, on June 19, 1965, Salinger’s last work, Hepworth 16, 1924, was published. After which Salinger, tired of the attacks of the press, went into the shadows for many decades. He did not give interviews or publish anymore. Perhaps it was in this story that Salinger gave answers to the questions that he asked himself and his readers, and to those that critics asked him. Perhaps, with this story, Salinger ended the main search of his life - the search for God - and therefore never wrote anything else. In the book you are holding in your hands, the famous philologist, specialist in Salinger's work, Irina Galinskaya, will reveal all the mysteries of his texts. Religious historian Boris Falikov will draw parallels between the life and work of the writer. Writer Yulia Belomlinskaya will talk about her experience of reading Salinger. Writer and religious figure Boris Kutuzov will talk about the Christian aspects of the writer’s work, talk about what he, Salinger’s God, is like...
