The first domestic turbojet engine, without which modern aviation is unthinkable, began to be created in the mid-30s of the last century by the little-known young inventor Arkhip Lyulka. He steadfastly and bravely went through technical difficulties, denial, and the disbelief of many experts that its non-piston, propeller-less engine will propel the plane at supersonic speeds and lift it into the stratosphere. But in 1941, Arkhip Mikhailovich was given an author's certificate for his new invention - a double-circuit turbojet engine. Decades later, the scheme would gain international recognition. His engines will be used on the aircraft of Sukhoi, Mikoyan, Ilyushin, Tupolev, Beriev. The pinnacle of Lyulka’s creativity - a brilliant scientist, designer, engineer, organizer - was the creation of a unique engine for the Su-27 aircraft and its modifications. Supersonic aircraft with these engines serve reliably, many world records for speed, altitude and super-maneuverability have been set on them. Hero of Socialist Labor, laureate of the Lenin and State Prizes, academician Arkhip Mikhailovich Lyulka selflessly served the Motherland and its defense capabilities. This book tells about the life of this wonderful man, his faithful and reliable associates, students, and continuers of his glorious work.
