The author of the book, A. Dobrynin, is one of the oldest diplomats of the post-war period, occupying a unique place in the history of our diplomacy in general and Soviet-American relations in particular. He made a significant contribution to the normalization of relations between the USSR and the USA and strengthening the international prestige of our state. The book offered to the reader is of undeniable interest, primarily because it allows one to look behind the scenes of almost a quarter-century of diplomatic history into the most difficult periods of relations between the two powers. The value of the book lies in the fact that the author is not a “chronicler”, but an active participant in the process of forming these relations, who enjoyed authority and influence in the highest echelons of power in both Moscow and Washington. A look from the “inside”, impressions and assessments of the author, supported by this same documents, are of significant interest to a wide range of readers.
