The book completes the publication of the main works of the outstanding Dutch scientist Johan Huizinga (1872-1945), which began with the publication of Autumn of the Middle Ages (1988) and then continued with Homo ludens / Man at Play (1997). The essay Culture of the Netherlands in the 17th century is devoted to an analysis of the causes and characteristics of the Dutch culture of the “golden age”. Erasmus's monograph reveals the complex and contradictory personality of the great Rotterdammer, one of the masters of thought in the era of Humanism. In his letters, I. Huizinga appears to us as a widely educated, bright and versatile person, completely devoted to scientific and moral duty.
