Norbert Wiener (1894–1964) is one of the most outstanding scientists of the 20th century, mathematician and philosopher, recognized founder of cybernetics and one of the creators of the theory of artificial intelligence, permanent teacher at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Wiener's enormous contributions to science have earned him honorary Doctorates of Philosophy from three universities and a number of prestigious awards, including the U.S. National Medal of Science, America's highest honor for scientific achievement. In his latest work, The God and Golem Corporation, Norbert Wiener attempted to address in the context of a religious worldview, problems that humanity may face as intelligent machines develop. Almost all world religions proceed from the fact that God created man. Man, in turn, created a machine - including a thinking machine. And further in this series the question arises: if God’s creation - man - was able to create a thinking machine “in his own image and likeness,” then wouldn’t the machine itself be capable of self-reproduction? And what “moral traps” does the ever-expanding field of interaction with his own creation—artificial intelligence—set before man?
