Valery Georgievich Popov was born in 1939 in Kazan. • He was six years old when he came to Leningrad on foot from Kazan. • Graduated from school, the Electrical Engineering Institute, then studied at VGIK. • Having become a prose writer, he wrote many books, which were later translated into different languages of the world. • Popov’s most famous books: “Southern Than Before” (1969), “Normal Progress” (1976), “Life is Good” (1981), “Everyday Life of a Harem” (1994), “Mushroom Pickers Walk with Knives” (1998), "Charming Outback" (2002). • Winner of the Sergei Dovlatov Prize for 1994 and the St. Petersburg Northern Palmyra Prize for 1998.
