The book by the Slovenian scientist Jozhko Shavli (b. 1943) is dedicated to the history and life of the Venets (Wends, Wends), one of the most ancient peoples of Europe. Based on a critical analysis of scientific literature, it summarizes the results of research into the archaeological cultures of Galshatat, La Tène, Lusatia, Vace, Villanova, and the ancient civilizations of the Roman Empire in Norica, Venice, Carnia, Raetia, and Vindelizia. Particular attention is paid to medieval Carantania: its geography, economy, social structure, local law, religious and folk traditions. Dr. Shavli's research proves the European autochthony and Slavic origin of the Veneti, polemicizing against the outdated theory of “migration of peoples.” The publication contains rare illustrations, maps , diagrams, notes with bibliography.
