After the end of the period of hard labor, Transbaikalia continued to be a place of exile for 17 active participants in the first armed uprising against the tsarist autocracy and serfdom on December 14, 1825 on Senate Square. Settled in different cities and remote villages of the region, the Decembrists enjoyed universal love and respect from the local population. For nine people, the Transbaikal land became the eternal resting place of their remains.
