The small town of Ereknium has been terrorized for several decades by the Grays - monsters whose anatomy is vaguely similar to a human. The main character, a member of the Order - an organization that owns the technology of combat in the mind, a guy who has a number instead of a name, finds out the hard way that the Grays have evolved and at this rate will be able to destroy humanity. He goes through a difficult journey to make sure of this, and then returns to the city to protect it from an organized attack by the Grays under the command of a certain Lord.
