The fog of war, or the fog of the unknown... For almost two centuries, the military of many countries around the world has been using this term to refer to the incompleteness and unreliability of the available data on the position of their troops and enemy troops in the theater of military operations. This incompleteness and unreliability leads to errors in military planning, the transfer of troops and reserves, and ultimately to a decrease in the effectiveness of combat operations and even the loss of individual battles. To a large extent, the “fog of war” can be overcome (dissipated) with the help of good reconnaissance, high-quality communications, and a high degree of organization of troops. In June 1941, the German army, taking advantage of its superiority achieved through better organization, better communications and combat experience, in border battles, she created an impenetrable “fog of war” for the Red Army, smashing its battle formations, disrupting the communications system, introducing chaos and confusion into command and control, organizing “encirclement cauldrons.” Our contemporary Sergei Ivanov, having moved to a parallel reality, in June 1941, uses his military knowledge and experience, as well as knowledge of the course and events of the Great Patriotic War in our time.
