The name of Vlas Doroshevich (1865–1922), a journalist by the grace of God, “the king of feuilletonists,” is one of the loudest in the history of the Russian press. His work attracted everyone's attention, his career experienced rapid ups and noisy scandals. Writer, Doctor of Philology Semyon Bukchin has been studying the figure of Doroshevich for more than fifty years and knows literally everything about his hero. Using extensive documentary material (using pre-revolutionary newspapers and magazines, archival sources), he for the first time recreates the life story of the great journalist, whose work was highly valued by Leo Tolstoy, Chekhov, and Gorky. The sense of humor and tragic perception of the world inherent in Doroshevich, his wit and vigilance of a critical eye - everything is conveyed by Bookchin with equal conviction. The book will be a significant contribution to the history of Russian literature and journalism.
