Rudolf Nureyev belonged to a rare type of people capable of changing the world around him. One can evaluate his contribution to the art of dance in different ways, but one cannot help but admit that without Nureyev there would be no modern ballet. He brought a living human feeling to classical art. He was one of the first male dancers to use female dance techniques. His life was woven from contradictions, and his fate was reminiscent of the story of Cinderella: a boy from a poor family became a world celebrity. He survived his fame, refusing to leave the stage, even when he no longer had the strength to dance, and lived a short but bright life, becoming one of the first victims of the AIDS epidemic. The most complete and vivid biography of the dancer tells not only about his turbulent personal life, but and about the main romance of his life - a romance with dance.
