The phenomenological sociology of knowledge, advocated by the authors of the book “The Social Construction of Reality,” is focused not so much on the study of specialized forms of knowledge, such as science, but on “everyday knowledge,” the reality of the “life world,” which precedes all theoretical systems. Given the abundance of ideological sources that are discussed at the beginning of the book, the main one, of course, is the phenomenology of E. Husserl, reworked by A. Schutz into phenomenological sociology. But the detailed development of the main categories and themes of the sociology of knowledge in a phenomenological perspective belongs precisely to P. Berger and T. Luckmann. After the publication of the work “The Social Construction of Reality,” this direction gained wide popularity and weight in American and German sociology.
